Standard nZEB vs Stricter Requirements

If the designer has not specified the Passivhaus standard, IV78 meets the requirement.
IV92 adds no technical value without this context.

nZEB

nZEB is the legal standard for new buildings in Romania — Uw ≤1.0 W/m²K for windows and doors. IV78, with a value of 0.81 W/m²K, easily meets this requirement.

Passivhaus

The Passivhaus standard is different: energy consumption for heating below 15 kWh/m²/year, verified through specialized energy calculations (PHPP). More restrictive than nZEB, not legally mandatory.

Intended Use and Specifications

IV92 is the premium laminated wood window system for Passivhaus and strict nZEB projects. 92 mm profile, 92×80 mm frame and sash in laminated wood, 48–52 mm triple glazing with Ug 0.5 W/m²K, 3 Q-Lon gaskets.

Uw is 0.71 W/m²K at the standard 1230×1480 mm size. For small windows (615×740 mm), Uw rises to 0.86 W/m²K. Acoustic insulation is 32–49 dB. We do not recommend VIG — the cost is not justified.

Use: projects requiring Uw below 0.80, high-end projects or passive-house requirements. Production volume is low in Romania; IV78 is sufficient for most nZEB projects, while IV92 is intended for stricter specifications.

Available Wood species

Standard species: spruce or pine for opaque RAL finishes, minimum lead time. Oak with translucent lacquer when the grain must remain visible. Meranti or larch for intense exterior exposure - natural resistance to humidity.

No. For nZEB, we recommend joinery with a Uw below 1.0 W/m²K - IV78 with 0.81 W/m²K covers this recommendation with a margin. IV92 is relevant for the Passivhaus standard or stricter contractual requirements. Without this context, IV78 is the correct and sufficient choice.

A 14 mm deeper profile, 48-52 mm triple glazing compared to 40-44 mm. Uw is 0.71 vs 0.81. For small windows, 0.86 vs 0.96. The cost of IV92 is higher - the choice is made based on the requirements in the technical documentation.

PHPP is the official Passivhaus calculation software, developed by the Passivhaus Institut in Germany. The certified designer uses it to simulate the energy consumption of the entire building and verify that it falls below 15 kWh/m²/year for heating. Without that calculation, you don’t know if IV92 is necessary or if IV78 would be sufficient; it’s a matter of engineering, not preference.

Yes, the wood-aluminiumminium version is also available for IV92. An aluminium profile is mounted on the outside of the wood, offering zero maintenance on the facade, while the thermal performance of the wood core remains unchanged.
